When you receive an e-mail, you receive more than just the message. The e-mail
comes with headers that contain important information that can tell where the
email was sent. For that, you would need to find the IP address of the sender.
Finding IP address in Hotmail
Open the message.
Click on the down-triangle beside "Reply" at the top-right of
the body of the message. Select "View message source".
It's not always the same but look for something similar to "Received: from". The IP address is after that.
Finding IP address in Gmail
Open the message.
Click on the down-triangle beside "Reply" at the top-right of the body of the message. Select "Show orginal".

Open the message.

Select the mesage with a right click from the list.
Select "Options".
Look in the header information for a text similar to "X-Originating-IP:". The IP address is between the square brackets [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx].
